Inspired and Intentional Business Podcast - Open Book Management, Business Vision, Employee Engagement, Balancing Profit and Social Impact

In the United States, according to Gallup, nearly 70% of employees are not engaged in their work. Disengagement negatively affects profitability and productivity. I believe there are 3 ways businesses can improve engagement. One, they inspire with a clear vision. Two, they practice open-book management. Three, they intentionally build collaborative, accountable, strength-focused teams. My intention is to inspire owners considering a new way to run their business and to encourage those currently fighting the good fight to balance profits and social impact. Let’s be inspired. The show will touch on business strategy, vision, internal communication, finance, accounting, organizational development, team-building, marketing, sales, and operations. Inspirations for the show include The Great Game of Business, by Jack Stack; Zingermans Community of Businesses, Ari Weinzweig, Paul Saginaw, Small Giants by Bo Burlingham, Open Book Managment by John Case, Zappos, and others.

This post continues our ZingTrain webinar replays. This is the beginning of the 2nd series that I've called, Building a Great Team.

The first recording has a crazy echo and we won't replay it here. The 2nd webinar is called 8 Terrific Tips to Tune up Your Team. If you find your team is experiencing the following, then you need to listen for some great ideas to help solve them:

Productivity is down
Energy seems flat
Interpersonal tension is up
“Fun” isn’t a word you’d use to describe coming to work

Katie Frank is a ZingTrain consultant and trainer. In part 2 of my discussion with Katie we deep dive into what ZingTrain does, but to me it is really a discussion of some steps people can take to start making a more intentional and inspired workplace.

This is cliche but you have to be the change you want. Blahhhh. As much as I don’t want to admit it, it’s true. If you’re a cog in your machine, you can make a difference where you are and Katie, by explaining some of the work ZingTrain is doing, gives some great tips on ways to move the needle. Even if the change is within yourself and by extension, your family isn’t that a step worth taking? She admits that it’s tough for middle managers to make these changes in a larger context. However, I want to encourage you that change is possible, again, even if it’s within yourself and your small circle of influence. How can you make your circle more inspiring, caring, human, and impactful?

Join me in part two of my conversation with another pairing from Menlo Innovations, Mollie Callahan, High Tech Anthropologist and George Lund, Software Developer.

In this episode we deep dive into the concept of pairing. This concept may not necessarily work in your business, but what are some ways you may want to consider structuring your company to support your purpose and the culture you’re hoping to encourage within your company?

Come on over to http://inspiredandintentional.com/episode61 to see the other show notes, questions to sign up for the Inspired Community email list.
