Inspired and Intentional Business Podcast - Open Book Management, Business Vision, Employee Engagement, Balancing Profit and Social Impact

In the United States, according to Gallup, nearly 70% of employees are not engaged in their work. Disengagement negatively affects profitability and productivity. I believe there are 3 ways businesses can improve engagement. One, they inspire with a clear vision. Two, they practice open-book management. Three, they intentionally build collaborative, accountable, strength-focused teams. My intention is to inspire owners considering a new way to run their business and to encourage those currently fighting the good fight to balance profits and social impact. Let’s be inspired. The show will touch on business strategy, vision, internal communication, finance, accounting, organizational development, team-building, marketing, sales, and operations. Work can be a source of joy. Working for a paycheck is transactional. What is it that you’re doing that is meaningful to you and purposeful to others? Don’t focus on joy directly. You focus on the things that help that feeling emerge. Knowing your work has meaning usually brings joy.

Meaningful work means you're getting something from the work being done.

Meaning - you get the satisfaction of doing the work for yourself.

You can find purpose in any kind of work.

Find purpose in what you’re doing and move from the transaction.

Company culture vs Company Climate

Company Culture - How things get done around an organization. Also the basic assumptions how the organization works.

Netflix - don’t have limits on vacation time and don’t have a policy on travel expenses. Assumption is made that people can be trusted.

This is why culture is so challenging to change. Because, often they’re based on deeper seated assumptions on human behavior and interaction.

Climate is what it’s like to work somewhere. (Hay group?) More influenced by someone’s immediate leader. How your leader shows up at work.

70% of the work experience is determined on your direct management experience.

Great company culture is not a millennial thing, but a human thing. However, 71% of millennials cite meaningful work as a priority.

Social Strategy  - Open, transparent - our brains are wired for connection and this is why social media is so popular. Create rich strong relationships within the workplace.

To thrive in this social environment - where are they creating social connections and being transparent.

Strengths - what energizes me and what I’m good at doing. Understanding strengths to make connections and open.
